End of a Chapter: GC 22nd Commencement Exercises
Gordon College 22nd Commencement Exercises with the theme “GCIAN GRADUATES: Embracing Transformative Innovations Beyond Barriers,” held at Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center (SBECC) on July 11, 2024.
Dr. Imelda DP. Soriano, OIC-College President, graced the event with her heartfelt opening remarks.
“It is a dedication to make a difference, not only in the Olongapo City, but in the entire global community. The willingness to put others before oneself, and understanding that the greatest fulfillment is found from helping those around us,” the OIC-College President reminded.
Furthermore, Mr. Rowel Y. Castillo, College Registrar, presented a total of 645 students consisting of graduates from College of Allied Health Studies (CAHS), College of Education, Arts and Sciences (CEAS), and College of Computer Studies (CCS).
Moreover, Olongapo City Mayor and Chairperson for the Board of Trustees Atty. Rolen C. Paulino Jr. also delivered his special message, along with accepting and confirming the graduates.
He highlighted in his message the expansion of the Gordon College Building near Kalaklan Bridge, and the plans of changing its name from Gordon College to Unibersidad ng Lungsod ng Olongapo.
“Gusto ko lang maging proud kayo sa school niyo, sa city — maging proud kayo sa Olongapo. And kapag nasa field na kayo, kapag successful na kayo, proud “ULO” kayo,” the mayor stated.
Meanwhile, Dr. Victor C. Quimen Jr., CAHS Dean took the platform to introduce Dr. Lora L. Yusi, Director IV of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) of Region III Office, as the commencement speaker of the ceremony and emphasized the importance of gratitude to the graduates.
“You have reasons to complain, but I hope you will choose to be grateful. It’s an acknowledgement of the good things that have happened to you,” Dr. Yusi said.
“If it is good, it’s wonderful; if it is bad, it’s experience — meaning, whatever happens to you, you still have to thank God for that. Because it is the good and the bad that will make us the best versions of ourselves very soon,” CHED Region III Director IV also added.
In addition, Ms. Clarissa Mae M. Berja, Magna Cum Laude from Bachelor of Arts in Communication gave her Graduation Speech, followed by the Pledge of Loyalty officiated by Monica L. Estrada, President of Graduating Class 2024, and the Alumni Oath, led by Abraham B. Dionson Jr., President of Gordon College Alumni Association.
The event concluded by closing remarks, aknowledgement of the faculty and administartive staffs’ achievements and committees who helped the success of this commencement exercises led by Dr. Darwin P. Paguio, Vice President for Academic Affairs.
