Hundreds of students and teachers from across the city laced up their sneakers and took to the streets for a fun run on October 22, 2023. The event, organized by the GC-IHK faculty was a celebration of teachers’ dedication to their students and the community.

The run kicked off at Tapinac Oval at 6:17 a.m. with a warm-up zumba exercise led by various students of Gordon College. Participants then set off on 5K course, winding their way through the heart of Olongapo City Proper.

Along the way, teachers were cheered on by students, community members, and other participants. The fun run was more than just a physical challenge. It was also a chance for teachers to come together and celebrate their profession. The mood was electrifying as the runners triumphantly reached the finish line.

Mica Faustino, a spirited participant who completed the race with a remarkable time of 14 minutes and 53 seconds, emphasized the joy and fulfillment that comes with pursuing one’s passion.

On the other hand, JB Piodo, with a notable time of 11 minutes and 22 seconds, shared the challenges of balancing academic responsibilities with sports commitments.

Meanwhile, Mr. Duclayan, P.E. Head Teacher at IHK, discussed the key goals of the event and stressed the significance of promoting physical well-being among students. “Ang key goals ay siyempre ‘yong mga students natin to be physically fit. At the same time maging aware sila sa mga sports, and activities sa school,” he emphasized. Additionally, the fun run event, an integral part of GC-IHK’s Physical Education program, served as a stepping stone toward achieving these overarching objectives.

The resounding success of “Takbo Para sa Guro,” raised a huge amount for the recent teacher’s day celebration. But more importantly, this event was a reminder of the important role that teachers play in our community.
