Mr. Ms. and Mx. ECONS: Promoting confidence and power thru English Language
Students of BSEd-English gathered at Gordon College PE Hall to witness the most-aticipated Mr. Ms. and Mx. ECONS initiated by the League of English Language and Literature Students (LELLS) as part of the English Month 2023 celebration last November 18.
The event was hosted by John Christian J. Rocero and Sherie Bohol, the Public Information Officers of LELLS, and spearheaded by Aeros Morales, the Auditor of LELLS.
Candidates from the Bachelor of Secondary Education – Major in English have competed for the title of Mr. Ms. and Mx. ECONS 2023.
Mr. Lucky Uel Magrata was hailed as Mr. ECONS 2023, Ms. Crisheille Naol hailed as Ms. ECONS 2023, and Mx. Marky Doctama was hailed as Mx. ECONS 2023.
Aside from the title, there are also special awards such as Best Polaroid (Most Facebook reactions), Best Style (best outfit from the photoshoot and contest proper), Best Wonder (candidate with the biggest audience impact), and Most Photogenic (combined scores from Best Style and Best Wonder category) for this year’s contest.

In an interview with the LELLS President, Gabrielle Bulda, she said that the contest aims to promote confidence and power thru English Language.
“ECONS is actually a shortcut word for English Icons, meaning, this event’s purpose is to really encourage English Majors to be an icon they already are. It’s also to promote confidence and power thru the English language. We also have plans to make this event per college candidates next year. ” she said.
She also said that she wants the students to enjoy their stay at Gordon College by conducting activities like these.
“Amidst the academic pressure and obligations, I want the students to have a great time and enjoy their college years thru activities like these. After all, they are still learning about English as they join the different activities under English Month. As well as for the ECONS, it promotes camaraderie and teamwork. Students coming together to support their classmates and just really have a great time during their stay in Gordon College.” Bulda said.
Meanwhile, she said that she considered this event as a successful one and shared what she felt in conducting this event of their organization.
“Not only me but the whole org knows it was successful the minute we processed the letters for this event. Unlike last year, it was still successful thru virtual means but this year was really a blast and a great development from last year’s. My heart is still full at the moment and I am still overwhelmed in a good way.” she stated.
The League of English Language and Literature Students (LELLS) is the official student organization of the Bachelor of Secondary Education – Major in English students of Gordon College.
