Gordon College athletes were showered gold as they were declared the Overall Champion, hoarding 41 gold, 16 silver, and 31 bronze medals at the awarding ceremony of the 13th Local Colleges and Universities-Athletic Association (LCUAA) National Games at Muntinlupa City today.
Warriors rise above their last year’s placement from being the 12th LCUAA’s 1st runner-up to climb this year’s pinnacle among 24 other local colleges and universities across the country.
In an interview with Dr. Imelda DP. Soriano, the OIC President of GC, assessed the next moves for the athletes and coaches alike.
“Ang key pala rito ay whole year round training, kasi before we are not doing that and hopefully by next year we will maintain ‘yong [pagiging] overall champ,” the OIC President asserted.
On the other hand, Mr. Roy De Vera, GC Sports Coordinator, shares what matters more than the gold this competition brought upon GC athletes.
“We’re so glad being the overall champion, napakasaya natin sa tagumpay na nakamit ng ating paaralan, subalit di pa tayo dito nagtatapos, dahil higit sa ensayo ay ang disiplina. Disiplina sa pag-aaral, disiplina sa larangan ng palakasan at pangangalaga sa katawan,” said the Sports Coordinator.
Moreover, Ms. Lovelyn Ceralde, the Vice President of the Office of Student Welfare and Services (OSWS) highlighted the struggles LCUAA goers had overcome before achieving their now worn crown.
“All of your hard work has finally paid off. Alam ko maraming obstacles, marami tayong pinagdaanan from preparation, training, [and] screening but amidst all of these, all of you gave your 100% dedication and resiliency during the 13th LCUAA National Games,” Ms. Ceralde expressed her appreciation.
The 13th LCUAA champions will now be home-bound as their sports uniform will then be replaced with that of Gordon College’s, ready again to face what they left behind in Olongapo City’s classroom.
