MARIKIT PARKโStudents from GC’s College of Computer Studies (CCS) launched their first-ever Tech Fest to inform its participants of the dangers and capabilities of cyber technicalities and to showcase the talents of the participating attendees last February 22, Saturday.
The event was initiated by fourth-year students from BSIT, BSEMC, and BSCS of the college, with unifying the CCS students and tech people of Olongapo as one of their goals.
When asked, Kurt Jeehan Tejado, one of the Events Chairman stressed out that this is a fund-raising activity that aims to allocate its earnings to the CCS students.
“May plan na magkaroon ng iMac lab para sa mga CCS students. And then, ‘yong purpose nito [fund-raising] is makatulong sa pag-upgrade no’ng iMac lab na ‘yon,” Tejado assured.

In addition to that, the festival includes three portions of educational talk with Mr. Domingo J. Chico in his “CyberSecurity 101” lecture; Mr. Wilson Censon on “How AI is shaping our future: Opportunities for students”; and Mr. Marvin Calingacion teaching “Pillars of information security.”
On the other hand, the Tech Fest also hosted multiple talent showcases, namely; cosplay runway, esports highlights, film screening, and digital arts presentation from its participants.
Moreso, there are numerous booths within the premises offering food and other products.

In an interview with The Forefront, Events Chairman Mark Labucca expressed how difficult it was for them to push this event through.
“I can say, ang pinaka naging malaking challenge talagang kinaharap namin is ‘yong pag-gather ng participants.”
Furthermore, Labucca, when asked why the event’s date was moved from January 15 to February 22, stated how the participant invitation forced them to postpone the former date.
“January 15 kasi hindi pa siya start ng semester…mas lalong naging hindrance ‘yong hindi pa start ‘yong semester sa pag-gather namin ng participants,” he furthered.

GC CCS Tech Fest team will aim to continue this program as a legacy of their college to launch the same event next year with the goal of further widening its scope of attendees, its contents, and solidifying its purpose.
