In her address, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office III Director IV Dr. Lora L. Yusi said Gordon College’s (GC) “much like a 26-year-old” at its exciting age—“strong, confident, and ready to conquer the world.”
“If Gordon College were a person, it would be old enough to rent a car, but still young enough to stay up all night binge-watching Netflix,” she added.
This speech was after her attendance at the 26th Founding Anniversary celebration of GC at SMX Convention Center, SM Central, Olongapo City last February 25.
“Twenty-six is not just a number—it’s a story of how a dream once nurtured grew into a thriving institution, deeply rooted in the heart of Olongapo…a story of countless lives touched, dreams realized, and communities transformed,” the CHEDRO III director furthered.
Dr. Yusi also expressed her confidence in the institution’s capability to build its students’ futures, “Every graduate who has walked through its halls is a living proof of the institution’s impact. These graduates are like seeds scattered across the land” that while some of them grew their roots in the city and some flew far, they still carry with them the values of the institution.
Moreover, the director spoke of the educators, administrators, and stakeholders in their respective roles in uprooting its students.
“And today, we celebrate those seeds that have grown and flourished. But we also celebrate the gardeners who, with steady hands and dedicated hearts, nurtured those dreams into reality. Without you, these stories would never have taken flight,” she exclaimed.
She prompted, “Just like the journey of the last 26 years, the next chapter will not be without its challenges” and voiced her certainty that the institution understands this message and confidence in its commitment to its mission while being agile to change.
“That is no small feat.”
As she extended her gratitude and congratulations to the institution, “Cheers to the past 26 years, to the next 26 years, and the many years to come. May Gordon College continue to write even greater stories of transformation, inspiration, and impact,” she also wished the institution to continue to be the builder of dreams and light ways for more generations.
