Gordon College – College of Education, Arts and Sciences (CEAS) graduating students participate in its 16th Convocation: Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremony held at SM Olongapo Central Convention Center on December 12, 2023, with the theme “Empowering Student Teachers: Navigating the Evolving Landscape of Education.”
Dr. Darwin Paguio, Vice President for Academic Affairs and the CEAS OIC-Dean, presented a total of 268 student teachers coming from different programs; 14 from BCAEd, 15 from BECEd, 40 from BEEd, 37 from BPEd, 44 from BSEd-English, 34 from BSEd-Filipino, 19 from BSEd-Mathematics, 21 from BSEd-Science, and 44 from BSEd-Social Studies
Meanwhile, Ms. Arlene E. Dela Rea, Senior Education Program Specialist from the Department of Education (DepEd) and the event’s keynote speaker, praised the stellar performance of Gordon College, achieving an impressive 83.95% passing rate in secondary education and 81.84% in elementary education. Ms. Delarea emphasized the pride and support of the Department of Education for such accomplishments, recognizing them as significant milestones, especially for first-takers.
Furthermore, she emphasized one of the critical components for the pre-service teachers, mentorship. She acknowledged and extended her gratitude to the school principals and cooperating teachers for their guidance and unwavering support to the 268 student teachers.
Moreover, Ms. Dela Rea wishes for a 100% passing rate on the PRC license exam next year, the stage was set for these graduates to embark on their noble journey of empowering minds and shaping futures, leaving an indelible mark that transcends the confines of the classroom.
After the pinning and candle lighting, Mr. Vrixter Stanley Gatbunton, a graduating student from BSEd-Mathematics and the President of CEAS Graduating Class 2023-2024 led the Student Teacher’s Pledge.
The culmination of the event was concluded by the closing remarks from Mr. Leby Fastidio, who extended heartfelt congratulations to the pre-service teachers for their dedication and hard work.
