The Office of Student Welfare and Services (OSWS) in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Public Employment Service Office (PESO), conducted their annual Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS) 2025 yesterday, May 28, at the SMX Convention Center Olongapo.

The morning session included students from the College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) and the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM) assisted by the Samahan ng mga Mag-aaral sa Araling Panlipunan (SMAP).

Meanwhile, the event continued until afternoon for the graduating students of College of Education, Arts and Sciences (CEAS), College of Computer Studies (CCS), and College of Allied Health Studies (CAHS).

Started by Mr. Arvin Fabian, Senior Labor Employment Officer of DOLE, the seminar aims to equip its participants with sufficient knowledge regarding labor standards.

“Ang mandate po kasi ng DOLE is to ensure that everyone receive[s] what is due to them,” assured Mr. Fabian.

Additionally, this event was led by Ms. Jehan Doblado, Career Education and Job Placement Services Unit (CEJPSU) Coordinator, with the goal of preparing graduating studentsfor the corporate world.

“Para hindi sila zero knowledge. [Para] pagka-graduate nila alam nila ang gagawin nila,” the CEJPSU Coordinator said.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Lovelyn Ceralde, the Vice President of the Office of Student Welfare and Services (OSWS), stressed how necessary it is to study these standards.

“It is important that you, our future leaders and contributors, are well-versed in these fundamental principles,” said Ms. Ceralde.

She also highlighted the upcoming Commencement Exercises in July for the graduating batch 2025.

β€œSee you on July 9 with your black togas!” the OSWS Vice President noted.

In an interview with The Forefront, some participants from different departments shared their insights on how the LEGS 2025 helped them as a graduating student of Gordon College.

β€œAng laking tulong nitong seminar saken as a graduating student para maging prepared sa mga kakailanganin ko as a first time job seeker,” Jordan Magbanua, CCS Graduating Student claimed.

β€œVery helpful para sa mga graduating students lalo na sa akin kasi sa personal experience ko na naging employee na nag-resign para magpatuloy ang pag-aaral. Na-enlighten ako sa seminar na ito,” CEAS Graduating Student said.

Moreover, this event eyes recurrence every year in face-to-face set-up to ensure that graduating students remain well-informed regarding their rights as current or future employees.
