In celebration of Women’s Month, Dr. Imelda DP. Soriano, College Administrator, shared her insights on influential women, debunked stereotypes, and offered advice to aspiring young women.

To tell the tale as she reflects on her journey, Dr. Soriano highlighted two (2) women as pivotal figures who significantly impacted her life.

β€œThe person I admire the most is Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago. I admire the braveness [and] the courage to speak kasi, ako rin, I speak out my voice as a public servant and administrator practitioner,” she said.

In addition, she also expressed her admiration for the selflessness of Mother Teresa and her urge to help who are in need.

β€œI want to help other people and it’s an open book that I also advocate helping yung mga oppressed and poor. As you grow older, you’re on the side of helping other people, especially when you are already in your mid-life,” Dr. Soriano added.

Meanwhile, regarding the misconception that ‘Women are weak leaders’, she stressed that both men and women have equal ability when it comes to leadership.

β€œOf course, no. For example, ako β€” as a college administrator β€” I am a woman but I know that the capacity of men and women are the same [and] equal. It depends on the conviction of the leader to lead an organization and we have a women [college] president because we empowered ourselves,” the College Administrator stated.

Lastly, she gave an advice for young women and men who are embarking on a journey towards their goals in life, β€œFirst is they should know their goals: where to go and what do they want to achieve. [Second,] work hard and have your own principle and philosophy. If you have that, young women like us [and] also young men, if they have their own vision in achieving their goals and working hard on it, they can achieve [it].”

Dr. Soriano underlined that one’s socioeconomic background should never stop them from pursuing achievements because she also came from modest origins.

She emphasized the importance of willpower, determination, and perseverance in conquering challenges and realizing one’s greatest potential.
