School of Midwifery Partners with DOH Scholarship Program

Do you want to pursue a career in the midwifery field but are worried of the tuition cost?


The Department of Health (DOH) created the Midwifery Scholarship under the Pre-Service Program of the Philippines (MSPP) in support to the goals and strategies of the FOURmula One (F1) Plus for Health and the goals of Universal Health Coverage, the DOH ensures that health care services are available, accessible and affordable to marginalized and vulnerable population of the country by providing free tertiary education for deserving students. The DOH believes that a key aspect in health service delivery is ensuring adequate number of Human Resource for Health. It aims to increase the availability of midwives who shall provide basic health care services to the un-served, underserved, hard to reach, economically underdeveloped, distressed, conflict and GIDA of the country (DOH, 2019).

Gordon College as partner school accepts and screens applicants for the scholarship program provided that an applicant is a senior high school graduate with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 80%. No average rating is required on General Ability of the Gordon College Admission Test (GCAT) but applicant must present his/her GCCAT result.

Accepted scholars will be provided with:

  • living subsidy of PhP 2,400/month
  • miscellaneous allowance of PhP 5,500/month
  • lodging allowance of PhP 3,000/month
  • transportation allowance of PhP 880/month
  • monthly allowance of PhP 8,800/month
  • book allowance of PhP 10,000/semester
  • uniform allowance of PhP 2,500/semester

Additionally, all scholars who are 18 years old and above are provided with a health insurance amounting PhP 2,400 per year payable to the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation. Tuition cost, laboratory fess, and other fees will be paid by the DOH directly to their partner schools.

To apply for the Midwifery Scholarship Program, take the GCCAT, submit the necessary requirements: (1) GCCAT result, (2) copy of barangay certificate of a bonafide resident of the community, (3) certificate of residency, (4) copy of combined family Income Tax Return (ITR), (5) certification as members of indigenous people or minority group (6) certificate of employment of parent legal guardian for dependents of government employees, barangay health workers, traditional birth attendant, police/soldiers fatally wounded killed on duty(if applicable) (7) 2pcs 1x1 picture, and (8) application form; then wait for the screening results.

The scholarship program at Gordon College School of Midwifery started last AY 2015- 2016 with seven scholars who already passed the Midwifery Licensure Examination and two scholars from Bulacan who are already working as Rural Health Midwives with the salary of PhP 32,000/month, three from Nueva Ecija who works at their barangay with an allowance of 10,000/month. For the first semester of this academic year, applicants will be accommodated until August 2019.
